Cora V. O'Banyon, 89, of Shelbyville died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Born Feb. 16, 1922, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Helen (Matthew) Smith. She married Rogers O'Banyon on Oct. 5, 1947, and he preceded her in death in August of 1972.
Survivors include sons, Roger O'Banyon and Tim O'Banyon, both of Shelbyville; daughters, Barbara O'Banyon of Newburgh, N.Y., Teresa (Larry) Floyd of Lumberton, N.C., and Mary Ruth Crowe of Shelbyville; sister, Patricia Garrett of Shelbyville; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Vinson Smith; and sisters, Betty Smith Browner and Edna Mae Smith.
Mrs. O'Banyon was a lifetime resident of this area and graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1940.
She was a self-employed beautician for 25 years, and also worked in production at KCL Corp. for 16 years.
Mrs. O'Banyon was a member of Kingdom Hall.
Cora enjoyed walking and grocery shopping and loved looking and dressing nice. She also loved making Rice Krispy treats for her family and grandchildren, was loved by everyone and will be truly missed.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Richard Meurer officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kingdom Hall in care of the funeral home.
