William L. Kelley
William Leonidas Kelley, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away August 20, 2017 at his residence.
Born February 12, 1929 in Shelby County, he was the son of James Albert and Valaria (Gregory)
Kelley. He married Patricia (Jones) Kelley on March 3, 1956 and she survives.
Other survivors include six children- Debra Shepherd (husband Robert) of Arizona, William Kelley Jr.
(wife Carmen) of Portage, Indiana, Byron Kelley of Peru, Barbara Kovacs (husband Karl) of Indianapolis,
Rebecca O’Rear (husband Donald) of Fort Myers, Florida, and Christopher Kelley of Indianapolis; sister
Bonnie Denny (husband Bill) of Waldron; 12 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded
in death by his parents, and 6 siblings- Flora, Paul, Robert, Reba, infant Mary Francis, & stillborn brother.
Mr. Kelley had lived in Indianapolis for 20 years, after moving from Shelby County. He retired from L.T.V. Steel
in East Chicago after 23 years of service, and had also been a signalman for New York Central Railroad for
20 years. He attended Waldron High School, and also had attended Shelbyville Baptist Temple. He served
in the US Army during the Korean War.
Bill was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed watching sports on TV.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 26, 2017, at 1:30 pm at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437
Amos Road, with visitation there from 11:30 am until the time of the service. Rev. David Humphrey will officiate.
There will be a gathering of friends and family at Nora Commons cafeteria, 8905 Evergreen Avenue, Indianapolis,
at 4:00 pm to commemorate William’s life.
