Omer F. Brewer

Omer F. Brewer, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away May 26, 2017 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
Born April 18, 1931 in Indianapolis, he was the son of Ernest F. &  Esther Marie (Speckner) Brewer.  He
married Janet L. (Elsner) Brewer on May 15, 1957, and she survives.
Other survivors include 4 children- Diane Abel of Shelbyville, Denise Brewer of Shelbyville, Darren Brewer of
Shelbyville, & Douglas Brewer (wife Diane) of Scottsburg; sister Martha Bell of Columbus, brother Ron Brewer
of North Carolina; 6 grandchildren- Jason Abel, Stephanie Morris, De Ann Swords, Ross Brewer, Emily Brewer,
& Kaitlyn Brewer, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Ernest F. Brewer, Jr.
Mr. Brewer had lived in this area for 60 years, after moving from Seymour.  He was co-owner of Brewer Design
Service, Inc. of Shelbyville, which he founded in 1965.  He graduated from Shields High School in Seymour in 1949
and was member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and Knights of Columbus in Shelbyville.  He was a U.S.
Air Force veteran who served during the Korean War.
Omer was an inventor, who held 2 patents.  He enjoyed writng poetry, gardening, sketching and painting, listening
to his wife play piano at home, but most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 4218 E.
Michigan Road, with Rev. Paul Landwerlen officiating.  Friends may pay their respects at the church on Tuesday
morning from 9-10:45 am, at which time Janet will play the organ in honor of her husband until the time of the service.
Burial will be in St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery.  A military graveside service will be conducted by a local veterans organization.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Vincent Cemetery
Maintenance Fund .
