Helen I. Mays

Helen I. Mays, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away April 6, 2017 at Homeview Health & Rehab in Franklin.

Born March 3, 1931 in Boggstown to Ben W. and Ethel (Inman) Mitchell, she married Vern E. Mays on September 18, 1948 and he preceded her on February 15, 1985.

Survivors include sons Ronald E. Mays (wife LaVerne) of Morgantown, and Rick J. Mays (wife Collina) of Florida, brother Howard Mitchell of Edinburgh, four grandchildren- Ronnie Lee Mays, Johnny Alan Mays, Tamara Bowers-VonDielingen, & Christopher Mays, nine great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, four brothers, three sisters, daughter-in-law Sharon Kay Mays, and grandson-in-law Paul E. Bowers.

Mrs. Mays was a lifelong resident of this area and was a home maker.  She was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church, and attended First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville.

Helen loved her friends and family, and enjoyed helping others in need.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Ernest Martin officiating.  Friends may pay their respects on Monday evening,

April 10, 2017 from 4-8:00 PM at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery in Shelby Co.

Memorials can be made to Salvation Army in care of the funeral home.
