Doris Branson

Doris Irene Branson. 89, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017, at Waldron Health and Rehab.

She was born June 17, 1928, in Taylorsville, to George E. Blanford and Ollie Marie (Mankin) Blanford.

Survivors include her son, Gary Gene Branson, of Shelbyville; daughters, Bonnie Lou Pope (husband, Ted), of Shelbyville, Toie Lynn Babb (husband, Gregg), of New Palestine, Brenda Hittle, of Shelbyville, and Connie L. Babb (husband, Scott), of Shelbyville; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Branson was preceded in death by her parents; son, Marvin Lee Branson; daughter, Sandra K. Davis; grandson, Aaron Thomas Oakes; sisters, Norma Wright and Anna Hicks; brothers, Elmer Blanford, and Arthur Blanford; great-grandchild, Dakota Wells; longtime companion, Everett Wayne Sweezy; and the father of her children, Frank E. Branson.

She was a lifetime resident of Shelby County.

Doris was a self-employed caregiver for 17 years retiring in 2006. She also was a bus driver for the Decatur County Schools for several years.

Doris was very active in Shelby County Women’s softball, coaching and playing with her daughter’s team.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at Glenn E. George and Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with visitation from 5 p.m. until time of service. The Rev. Ronnie Caine will officiate.

Toie, I'm really sorry about your mom. That is a tough loss, I know. My mom passed away a couple of years ago, and sometimes I still reach for the phone to tell her something! I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers......Love, Beth
