Cora “Betty” Hoban
We sadly announce the passing of Cora “Betty” Hoban. She passed peacefully at 3:30 AM on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Waldron Heath and Rehab.
Betty was the wife of local barber and musician, Bob Hoban who preceded her in death on May 10, 2010. She was born February 4, 1931 in Fairland to Edgar Albert and Lenore (Thurston) Dake.
She will be greatly missed by her friends and surviving family members; son Gary Armstrong (wife Denise) of Cary, North Carolina, daughter Carol Armstrong of Shelbyville, stepdaughter Leta Poland (husband David) of Fairland, and stepson Kevin Hoban of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Also surviving is grandson Shane Armstrong (wife Maie) of Cary, NC, granddaughter Ashley Shanks (husband Mark) of Mooresville, NC, great grandchildren Arlo Armstrong, Ryder Shanks, and Delaney Shanks.
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, and sister Janet Elliott.
Betty was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Morristown High School.
She attended First Christian Church and had worked over 50 years for Stubbs & Stubbs Attorneys of Shelbyville. She was the first president of Indiana Association of Legal Secretaries, and was also a member of the Mensa Society.
Betty enjoyed needlework and cross stitching, crossword puzzles, glass staining, attending flea markets, and was an avid teddy bear collector.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with Pastor Beth Crouch officiating.
Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County.
Friends may call on Thursday evening, March 30, 2017, from 5-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Because of her love for animals, we respectfully request in lieu of flowers, to make donations to a no kill animal shelter. We are directing donations to Newport Animal Shelter of Newport, NC in care of the funeral home.
