Ligonal W. Davis Jr.
Ligonal W. Davis, Jr. age 84, of Shelbyville passed away peacefully on June 15, 2017 surrounded by his family.
He was born on September 1, 1932 in Greensburg, Indiana to Ligonal W. Davis, Sr. and Ethel (Parks) Davis and was the seventh of eight children.
He graduated from Waldron High School in 1950 and was a faithful member of the Lewis Creek Baptist Church for 56 years.
Junior established the Chateau Apartments in 1966 when he built the first two buildings. Later, in 1994 he would add a third, totaling 34 units.
In 1959, he started Davis & Son Construction Company, which he owned and operated for 56 years.
Following many years of constructing beautiful, luxury homes all over Indiana, Junior enjoyed dedicating his time to his workshop focusing on specialized woodworks including entertainment centers, cabinets, tables and dining sets.
Left to honor Junior and remember his love are his beloved wife of 23 years, Carole Dene (Denie); son, James (wife, Teresa) Davis of Decatur County, Indiana; daughter; Marjorie (husband, Keith) Petty of Gilmer, Texas ; stepdaughter Dana (husband, Pete) Zorn of Norton Shores, Michigan ; grandsons Brandon Davis of Shelbyville, Indiana and Derek Dile of Norton Shores, Michigan; and granddaughters, Delaney Dile and Chelsea Paul, both of Norton Shores, Michigan; 2 great-grandchildren; three sisters Ethel Mae Soroko of Indianapolis, Indiana; Norma Jean Massman of Portland, Oregon; Helen Wasson and brother John Davis, both of Greensburg, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Virginia and brothers, Wilbur Davis and Harold Davis; and a sister, Mabel Mount.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Junior touched are invited to join in remembering his life at the Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville on Monday June 19, 2017, as the family greets friends from 4:00pm until 7:00pm.
The funeral ceremony will be on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at 1:00pm with burial at the final resting place, Union Chapel Cemetery in Decatur County, immediately following.
